Wikipedia defines authority as the extent to which one can regard the commandments and doctrines within the Old and New Testament scriptures as authoritative to our humans’ beliefs and conduct.

Biblical authority comes from God’s desire to reveal himself through the written word, the Bible, and man.

When Jesus arrived on the scene healing, speaking prophecies, teaching in parables, casting out demons, etc. The Pharisees and Sadducees were perplexed. This was the son of a carpenter. He was not a biblical scholar like them, yet he held an authority about him that was not reliant on the confirmation from man.

In the parable of the two foundations, Jesus talks about two men. One sensible, who hears the words Jesus is speaking and acts on them. He builds his house on the rock. The other man was unsensible. He hears Jesus’ words and does not do them. He is like a man who builds his house on the sand. When the rains fell and the floods came, and the winds blew it was only the house on the rock that stood because it had been founded on the rock. The house built on the sand fell.

The response of the crowd listening to Jesus teach with such authority was astonishment. For the one who once was thought to be low, a carpenter’s son was walking in His Father’s authority.

Our heavenly Father has apportioned us with His authority. Spend time with Him today, and allow Him to show you how to walk in His authority.
