David knew what it was to feel fear. In Psalm 56, David is crying out to the Lord because of the danger that surrounds him. David, a man after God’s own heart, knew where his help came from. “Instead of building up gradually to his complaint, the psalmist pours out his heart immediately.” (VanGemeren) He knew what to do with his fear. David called out to God. He boldly proclaimed his trust in him to move in his trial, despite the fear.
When people twist your words by saying hurtful things, and their thoughts are evil toward you, turn to the Lord. He will be gracious and care for you. David boldly comes before God. You can do the same. Put all your trust and confident reliance on him. There is no reason to fear. God will hide you in the shadow of his wings. He will rescue your soul from the darkness, and keep your feet from stumbling so you can walk boldly through your trial.
The choice is yours. Boldly walk through the trial with the Lord by your side, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, or walk through your trial alone. Turn from your fear. Walk into the boldness of faith in a heavenly Father that will never let you down.
Psalm 56 AMP
“Be gracious to me, O God, for man has trampled on me; All day long the adversary oppresses and torments me. 2 My enemies have trampled upon me all day long, For they are many who fight proudly against me. 3 When I am afraid, I will put my trust and faith in You. 4 In God, whose word I praise; In God I have put my trust; I shall not fear. What can mere man do to me? 5 All day long they twist my words and say hurtful things; All their thoughts are against me for evil. 6 They attack, they hide and lurk, They watch my steps, As they have [expectantly] waited to take my life. 7 Cast them out because of their wickedness. In anger bring down the peoples, O God! 8 You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not recorded in Your book? 9 Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call; This I know, that God is for me. 10 In God, whose word I praise, In the Lord, whose word I praise, 11 In God have I put my trust and confident reliance; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? 12 Your vows are binding upon me, O God; I will give thank offerings to You. 13 For You have rescued my soul from death, Yes, and my feet from stumbling, So that I may walk before God In the light of life.
1 Samuel 13:14 AMP
But now your kingdom shall not endure. The Lord has sought out for Himself a man (David) after His own heart, and the Lord has appointed him as leader and ruler over His people, because you have not kept (obeyed) what the Lord commanded you.”
